Hexene
The reaction between hexene, bromine, and water is an additionreaction resulting in the formation of a bromohydrin. The reactionis as follows:1-hexene + bromine -H2O- 1-bromo-2-hexanolCH2=CH(CH2)3CH3 + Br2 (aq)- CH2BrCH(OH)(CH2)3CH3 Ifstereochemistry is specific, anti-addition will always occur due tothe cyclic bromonium ion intermediate, resulting in twotrans-enantiomers.Also, H2O will always attack the most substituted carbon, placing the Br on the less substituted carbon. This RXN can beuseful in the laboratory (with or without H2O) as a test forunsaturation.
The dark red color of Br2 will dissapate as the RXNproceeds. Shadow of the tomb raider trailer.
